New Insoles Help Peripheral Neuropathy Patients Feel The Ground
A recent article reports that a new invention will help those with nerve damage know when their feet are in contact with the ground.
Vibrating elements in the insoles will activate when the person’s shoe contacts the ground, which the person can feel more readily than just feeling the shoe’s sole touching the ground. This allows the person to not have to watch every step and worry when their foot is in contact with the ground, allowing them to walk with more confidence.
One example given was an accident victim who suffered a spinal cord injury and had no feeling in his feet. He could, however, detect the vibrations emitting from the sensors, so he knew his foot was on the ground and he could walk more easily.
As we have discussed many times on this blog, the first step is to see your doctor or podiatrist. They can refer you to the right specialist to help obtain this or other new technologies to help you live your life to your fullest.
