Gout, Ouch!

Spread the love

Gout.  Not a word that rages in the forefront of your mind these days, is it?  A word that until recently I associated with a an odd ailment in the novels I read. Specifically, romance novels.  You know the ones, where the Lord of the manor is sitting in his chair at the high table with his leg propped up trying to relieve the pain in his foot.  Did you know that it’s a form of arthritis?  Tends to start in your big toe. It can affect other joints as well, but for some odd reason likes the big toe.  Sharp pain, redness, tenderness, swelling.  Ouch!

And we all know diet is the biggest contributor.  Know what is the #1 cause of gout?  Beer.  Bummer, huh?  Ben Franklin said “Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy”.  So what is gout proof of? That one may take several pitchers of beer to figure out.  There are lots of resources out there to help you with your diet to combat gout.  As with most of the advice we give on this site, it follows a common theme:  seek out the experts.  We all have our area of expertise, mostly what we practice at work.  So give the medical community their chance to practice their expertise and help your feet.

You know how bad your toe(s) hurt when you stub one against the edge of something.  A door jam, the couch, that dang table leg.  Can you imagine your toe hurting like that all the time?  Plus, it likes to attack at night.  What the heck?  As if, your toe hurting like the dickens isn’t bad enough, you have to get woken up feeling like its on fire?
What to do, what to do?  Take care of yourself.  Get your feet checked out on a regular basis.  I know that a visit to the Doctor is a pain, but how do you weigh that against having your feet in good health?
We spend so much money on clothing, makeup, cars not to mention the upkeep on them.  How is so hard to take time and effort and put yourself first?  It’s not, we just need to re think things.  Take the time, help yourself.  Take care of you.  You don’t always have to be last on the list.
